It’s the first thing everybody wants to know, and it’s the one thing most junk removal companies dance around: what’s this going to cost me?
I’ve been doing this for over a decade, so let me just be straight with you about how junk removal pricing actually works. Once you understand what you’re really paying for, you’ll know how to get a fair price — and how to spot the companies that are about to nickel-and-dime you.
You’re paying for space in the truck, not time
The honest way to price junk removal is by volume — how much room your stuff takes up in the truck or trailer. Picture the truck bed split into fractions: an eighth, a quarter, a half, all the way up to a full load. A couple of old chairs and some boxes might be an eighth. A full garage cleanout might be a half or a full load. You pay for the space you actually fill, and nothing more.
That’s why, at BullDawgs, we come look at the job (or you send us a few photos) and give you a flat price before we touch a thing. You know the number up front. No meter running, no surprise total at the end.
Why we don’t charge by the hour
Some companies quote you an hourly rate. Sounds cheap until you realize the slowest crew makes the most money — there’s zero reason for them to hurry. You end up watching two guys take coffee breaks on your dime.
Volume pricing flips that. The price is the price whether we’re in and out in twenty minutes or it takes us two hours. That keeps us fast and keeps you protected.
What actually moves the price up or down
A few real factors change what a job costs:
How much there is. The biggest one. More volume, more truck space, higher price. Simple.
Weight, for heavy material. Most household junk is priced on volume alone. But if you’ve got concrete, dirt, brick, roofing, or other dense debris, weight comes into play — the dump charges by the ton on that stuff, so heavy loads cost more than a truck full of light household clutter of the same size. (We do a lot of concrete and dirt removal out here, so we’re upfront about this.)
Access and labor. A pile sitting in the driveway is quick. The same pile in a third-floor apartment, down a long hallway, or behind a locked gate takes more work — and that can nudge the price. Tell us where it is when you call so the quote is accurate.
Special-disposal items.A few things cost more to get rid of legally: mattresses, appliances that need refrigerant handled, tires, and certain electronics all have their own disposal fees at the facility. We fold that into the quote so you’re not blindsided.
What a fair quote looks like
A good junk removal quote should be:
- Free. You should never pay just to find out the price.
- Upfront and flat. One number, agreed before the work starts.
- All-in. Labor, hauling, dump fees, and cleanup included — not added on after.
- No surprises. What we quote is what you pay, every time.
That’s how we run every job at BullDawgs, whether it’s a single couch in Menifee or a full property cleanout in Murrieta.
The bottom line
There’s no flat “junk removal costs X” answer, because a few boxes and a whole-house cleanout aren’t the same job. But the wayyou should be charged is simple: by the space it takes, with a free quote up front and no games. If a company won’t give you a clear price before they start, that tells you everything you need to know.
